321 stainless steel is a titanium-stabilized austenitic steel that provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, oxidation, scaling, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. Alloy 321 stainless steel is primarily composed of chromium, nickel, and a small amount of titanium. The inclusion of titanium distinguishes 321 stainless steel from other grades in its ability to withstand elevated temperatures without sacrificing corrosion resistance.The addition of titanium also provides stabilization against chromium carbide precipitation, which can occur in the high-temperature range,which enhances the weldability of 321 stainless steel and makes it suitable for applications involving welding and fabrication.
Similar to other types austenitic stainless steel, 321 sstainless offers excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in mildly corrosive environments. The presence of chromium contributes to its ability to resist oxidation and corrosion.
