Applications of Chain Steel

Chain steel is a specially designed type of steel material that is used for manufacturing chains. Chains are widely used in various industries and applications, including lifting and rigging, transportation, construction, agriculture, and more. The steel used for chains needs to possess specific properties to ensure strength, durability, and resistance to wear and fatigue.

Casting

Once the steel is produced, it is cast into billets, which are long bars of steel that can be further processed into the desired shape and size.

Rolling

The billets are then heated and rolled into round bars using a rolling mill. The rolling process improves the mechanical properties of the steel and gives it the desired shape and dimensions.

Heat treatment

After the round bars are produced, they are heat treated to enhance their mechanical properties. The heat treatment process involves heating the bars to high temperatures and then cooling them in a controlled manner.

Finishing

After heat treatment, the round bars undergo final finishing operations such as polishing, grinding, or coating to improve their surface finish and other properties.

Production Process of Chain Steel

Raw material selection

The first step is to select the appropriate raw materials to manufacture the 45Mn carbon steel round bar. The main raw materials are iron ore, coke, and limestone.

Ironmaking

The ironmaking process involves the reduction of iron ore in a blast furnace to produce pig iron. This process involves heating the raw materials at high temperatures to extract the iron.

Steelmaking

The pig iron is then refined in a steelmaking furnace to produce steel. Various methods are used for this, including the basic oxygen process, electric arc furnace, and the open-hearth process.

Some Common Tests of Chain Steel

1
productcate-1-1

Chemical composition analysis

This involves determining the amounts of various elements in the steel, to ensure they meet the specified standards and requirements.

2
productcate-1-1

Mechanical testing

This includes tests such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness, which measure the strength and ductility of the steel.

3
productcate-1-1

Surface inspection

This involves visual or non-destructive testing methods to detect any surface defects or flaws in the steel, such as cracks or irregularities.

4
productcate-1-1

Microstructure analysis

This involves examining the microstructure of the steel under a microscope, to assess the grain size, phase composition, and other properties that may affect the performance of the steel.

FAQ

Q: What kind of steel is used for chains?

A: In addition to carbon steel, manufacturers also employ stainless steel to produce chains with greater corrosion resistance. In particular, they often use 304 and 316 stainless steel grades, which exhibit a higher carbon content than other stainless steel alloys and, therefore, higher tensile strength.

Q: Is my chain silver or steel?

A: A simple magnet test can be revealing: Magnetic Reaction: Silver is not magnetic, while some stainless steel can be slightly magnetic. If a magnet sticks to your jewelry, it's likely stainless steel; if it doesn't, it could be silver

Q: What is the strongest metal for chains?

A: Gold and platinum are some of the strongest metals used to produce necklaces. Thick chain necklaces can also be produced from titanium, the strongest metal ever known. However, titanium pieces are almost impossible to find on the market because of their high value.

Q: What is alloy steel chain?

A: Alloy steel chain slings are made from various grades of alloy, but the most common grades in use are grades 80 and 100. These chains are manufactured and tested in accordance with ASTM (American Society for Testing and Maintenance) guidelines.

Q: How can you tell if a chain is real steel?

A: Magnetic Attraction: Real stainless steel is typically magnetic. Use a fridge magnet to see if there's a pull. Grades like 304 or 316 stainless steel will have a slight magnetic response due to the alloy's iron content.

Q: Is alloy steel better than steel?

A: “Alloy steel” however, is a steel that has been mixed with additional properties, which may include manganese, nickel, chromium, or boron, among many others. It is strong, hard, and generally tough, and it can usually resist wear and damage better than other steels.

Q: What is the best grade of chain?

A: Grade 100 chains are the strongest among readily available chains. Their strength-to-weight ratio is about 25% higher than grade 80 chains'. Most of the time, a grade 80 will suffice.

Q: Is my chain fake if it sticks to magnet?

A: Several simple tests can help you determine if a gold chain is real or fake: Magnet Test: Gold is non-magnetic. If your chain is attracted to a magnet, it might be an imposter.

Q: Does alloy steel break easily?

A: Tensile strength indicates the force that material can bear before breaking. Materials that have higher tensile strength are generally more robust. The alloy steel has a tensile strength of around 800 to 1800 MPa. This means this material can bear a maximum of 1800 MPa of stress before breaking.

We're well-known as one of the leading chain steel manufacturers and suppliers in China, specialized in providing high quality products and service. We warmly welcome you to wholesale chain steel for sale here from our factory. For price consultation, contact us.
