Alloys 309 and 309S are austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels developed for use in high temperature corrosion resistance applications. The only significant difference between 309 and 309S is the carbon content.
309 (UNS S30900) stainless steel is an austenitic heat resistant alloy with oxidation resistance to 1900°F under constant temperature conditions.309S (UNS S30908) is the low carbon version of the alloy.
The 309/309S stainless steel plate is distinguished by its high chromium and nickel content, providing superior resistance to oxidation and corrosion in challenging environments. The high chromium content contributes to its excellent resistance to sulfidation and other aggressive chemical reactions, making it an ideal choice for applications in elevated temperature atmospheres.
