303 Stainless Steel contains approximately 17-19% chromium, 8-10% nickel, and 0.15% sulfur. The addition of sulfur improves processing properties, making it easier to cut and process.
The unique sulfur content in its composition enhances its machinability, making 303 steel plate the first choice for applications requiring complex and precision machining. However, the addition of sulfur to 303 stainless steel reduces its corrosion resistance compared to Grades 304 and 304L.
Compared with Grade 304,303 stainless plate has poor corrosion resistance, especially in acidic environments. Mainly used for manufacturing easy-to-machine parts such as bolts, nuts, shafts, etc., and applications where processing performance rather than maximum corrosion resistance needs to be emphasized.
