SK2 Steel is a Japanese high carbon tool steel,with a higher carbon content, resulting in high hardness, high wear resistance but low toughness steel, suitable for tools that require extremely high sharpness and wear resistance, such as precision knives, molds, etc.and should be avoided impact loads when used.
In the annealed state,SK2 steel has good machinability and is suitable for cutting and grinding, but after quenching,it is extremely hard and can be significantly more difficult to machine.
SK2 Steel Chemical composition
Carbon (C): 0.90-1.04 percent
Silicon (Si): 0.35% or less
Manganese (Mn): 0.50-0.80 percent
Phosphorus (P): 0.030% or less
Sulfur (S): 0.030% or less
The high hardness makes SK2 steel less prone to wear after long-term use, and is suitable for tools that require durable sharpness, such as precision cutting tools, scalpels, etc. However,SK2 steel has poor corrosion resistance and is susceptible to rust and corrosion, requiring anti-corrosion treatment.
