This type of 201 steel belongs to the 200 series of austenitic stainless steel family, which was created to substitute nitrogen, manganese, and other components for nickel,with good corrosion resistance and hot and cold working properties.
Characterized by low-nickel content but high manganese content,Type 201 is a lower cost alternative to conventional Cr-Ni stainless steels such as 301 and 304.SS201 provides moderate corrosion resistance, suitable for use in normal atmospheric conditions. It may not be as corrosion-resistant as some higher-grade stainless steels,such as grade 304.
