301 stainless is a type of austenitic stainless steel which contains chromium and nickel as the principle alloying elements. They can be hardened only by cold working. In the annealed condition,301 stainless steel are not attracted to a magnet but may become slightly magnetic after cold working.

301 ss sheet have different surface finishes, such as 2B (cold-rolled, annealed, and pickled), NO.1 (hot-rolled, annealed, and pickled), BA (bright annealed), among others.

- No.1: Hot rolled, annealed, and pickled
- No.2B: Cold-rolled, annealed, and pickled with a bright finish
- No.4: Polished with a 150-180 grit finish
- Hairline: Polished with a 240 grit finish
- BA: Bright annealed and polished
