316 steel generally contains 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum,which provide excellent corrosion resistance.316 also can be referred to a chromium-nickel molybdenum austenitic stainless steel alloy,the addition of molybdenum further enhances its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.The chromium content in 316 stainless steel also forms a passive oxide layer on the surface that protects it from further corrosion.
