302 stainless steel is an austenitic alloy that belongs to the 300 series of stainless steels. It is a high-carbon grade, which means it has less than 0.15% carbon content, making it more resistant to corrosion than carbon steel. Additionally,302 stainless has a high level of chromium, which imparts its excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
When annealed, 302 stainless steel has a tensile strength of 75,000-101,000 psi, a yield strength of 30,000-50,000 psi, and an elongation of 40-60%. In its tempered condition, it has a tensile strength of 185,000-240,000 psi, a yield strength of 140,000-210,000 psi, and an elongation of 2-10%. This combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and formability makes 302 steel an ideal material for a range of applications.
