Manganese, nitrogen, and other elements were substituted for nickel in the development of 201 stainless steel, a form of 200 series austenitic stainless steel with strong corrosion resistance and hot and cold working qualities,which is a less expensive choice to traditional Cr-Ni stainless steels like 301 and 304.
Compared to 300 series stainless steel,201 stainless steel plate has has some unique properties and advantages.
- Composition: 201 stainless steel is higher in manganese and nitrogen, while 300 series stainless steel is higher in chromium and nickel.
- Corrosion resistance: 201 stainless has poor corrosion resistance, especially in humid or acidic environments, and is prone to rust problems. In contrast, 300 series has better corrosion resistance due to its higher chromium and nickel content and can resist the attack of many chemicals.
- Processing performance: 201 steel has higher hardness and is more difficult to process, while 300 series stainless steel has better processing properties and is easy to perform bending, cutting, welding and other processing operations.
