Alloy 309 is a type of austenitic stainless steel that finds its use in applications where elevated temperatures are a concern. With high amounts of chromium and nickel, 309 stainless steel have superior corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and is able to maintain a larger fraction of room temperature strength than its common austenitic counterpart Alloy 304.
Alloy 309 stainless steel is good at versatility in applications from furnace parts to high-temperature containers. Being that Alloy 309 is able to provide reliable protection from oxidation or corrosion at any heating rate, it can be used in a wide range of applications without major concern of material failure.
Due to its high levels of nickel,309 steel also have excellent welding characteristics and can be easily welded together with other materials of this type. It can be easily formed and machined as well.
