In order to preserve nickel, austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel known as 201 was created. Grade 201 is a less expensive option to traditional Cr-Ni stainless steels like 301 and 304. Manganese and nitrogen are added in place of nickel.
Compared to Grade 304 Stainless Steel,type 201 features some advantage,as follows:
- Strength: 201 stainless steel has higher strength than grade 304 at room temperature. This may make 201 steel a suitable choice in some applications requiring higher mechanical properties.
- Ease of Processing: 201 stainless is relatively easy to process and shape, making it suitable for a variety of manufacturing processes. This makes it advantageous in the production of some special shapes and structures.
- Good corrosion resistance: Although the corrosion resistance of type 201 may be slightly inferior to that of 304 stainless steel, it still performs well in some general environments.
- Suitable for decorative applications: Due to the 201 stainless steel can show good surface gloss after polishing, it is attractive in some decorative applications, such as furniture, kitchen appliances, etc.
