405 stainless steel plate is a low-chromium ferritic stainless steel,including 12% chromium, 85% iron, and 1% each of manganese and silicon,has good oxidation resistance and can maintain good strength and toughness at high temperatures. It has a high tensile strength and is commonly used in annealing, especially metal fabrications that are difficult to anneal after welding.
405 is a 12% chromium stainless steel designed to be used in the as-welded condition. Unlike the other grades of 12% chromium stainless, 405 steel is not vulnerable to extensive hardening through air cooling from high temperatures. 405 stainless steel is a low-chromium ferritic stainless steel, not hardened steel. It can also be used as heat-resistant steel.
