303 SS is a non-magnetic, austenitic, free-machining stainless steel,a modification of the basic 10% chromium -8% nickel stainless steel specially designed to exhibit improved machinability while maintaining good mechanical and corrosion-resistant properties.
303 stainless steel contains chromium and nickel as primary alloying elements, providing enhanced corrosion resistance, particularly in mildly corrosive environments. The unique feature of 303 steel is the addition of sulfur, which contributes to its exceptional machinability. The sulfur inclusion forms manganese sulfide inclusions, aiding in the creation of small, broken chips during machining processes.
