Stainless steel 316 is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that contains chromium, nickel, and molybdenum,manufactured to offer enhanced corrosion resistance in moderately corrosive environments.It offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for a variety of applications, especially in environments with exposure to corrosive substances.
The addition of molybdenum enhances 316 steel general corrosion resistance and chloride pitting. In an upraised temperature it also provides high creep, stress-to-rupture, and tensile strength.The molybdenum also enhances its resistance to various corrosive environments, including those containing chlorides such as seawater or industrial chemicals.
