Austenitic stainless steel is a type of steel with a face-centered cubic crystalline structure,achieved by adding enough austenite-stabilizing elements such as nickel, manganese and nitrogen,is the most important and common type in the stainless steel family.The steel is non-magnetic, is hardened significantly by cold-working and is known for its high corrosion resistance, formability, weldability, and other fine mechanical properties,widely used in various applications, such as chemical industry, food processing, medicine, petroleum, natural gas and architectural decoration.
The most common austenitic stainless steel and most common of all stainless steel is Type 304, also known as 18/8 stainless steel,extensively used in such items as cookware, cutlery, and kitchen equipment. Type 316, is the second most common austenitic stainless steel,based on 304 stainless steel, molybdenum (Mo) element is added to further improve corrosion resistance, especially in chloride environments. Widely used in marine facilities, chemical equipment and medical equipment, etc.
