What is the process of manufacturing galvanized steel?
Galvanized steel is produced by immersing a steel sheet into a bath of liquefied zinc. The zinc liquefies and bonds to the steel, forming a safeguarding layer. There are two primary techniques for galvanizing steel: hot-dip galvanizing and electrogalvanizing.
- Hot-dip galvanizing:During the process of hot-dip galvanizing, the steel sheet is submerged in a container filled with liquid zinc that has been heated to around 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The zinc undergoes melting and solidifies as a layer with a thickness ranging from 0.002 to 0.006 inches.
- Electrogalvanizing: During the process of electrogalvanizing, the steel sheet is fully immersed in a solution containing zinc ions. An electric current is used to induce the deposition of zinc ions onto the surface of the steel. The zinc coating has a thickness ranging from 0.0002 to 0.0005 inches.
